My name is Hollan Smith. I am from Mathews, Alabama, a small rural community outside of Montgomery. Growing up in the country obviously made me have a love for the outdoors and adventure. However, it was not the outdoors and adventures I loved most about the farm where I grew up, it was the people I was surrounded by every day. A red barn was the only thing that separated my house from my grandparents' house. There was not a day that went by that I would not see my grandparents and I believe those days spent watching and learning from them shaped me into the woman I am today. My grandparents have now passed away, but the values I learned from them will stay with me forever. They taught me the most honorable thing you could do is give someone your word and if you tell someone you are going to do something, you do it.

The strong ethical foundation my family instilled in me, along with my love for travel and meeting new people, is the reason I am pursuing a major in public relations. I like to think I am a people person which is why communicating with new people and making connections enthralls me. I also have a passion for planning. My family and friends have always been amazed at my knack for planning trips. I think my ability for planning comes from who I am: responsible, dependable, driven, and organized. There is just something about researching a new place that drives my passion for travel. I am always eager to try new things and challenge myself to go out of my comfort zone. I may love adventures and meeting new people, but at the end of the day I will always be the little girl who lived beside the red barn.
